Gertrude Stein Democratic Club Applauds DC Council Vote to Recognize in DC Same Sex Marriages Performed Outside of DC

Washington, DC - Today, the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club issued the following statement in response to the DC City Council voting to recognize same sex marriages from other states.

"The Gertrude Stein Democratic Club applauds the DC City Council for enacting legislation recognizing same sex marriages from other states.   We are pleased that they listened to their constituents, and took yet another monumental step towards equality in the District of Columbia.

We thank Councilmember Mendelson for his continued effort to break down barriers for same sex couples in the District of Columbia and for putting the values of pro-equality Democrats into practice. 

While we have a long way to go in our movement for marriage equality in the Nation's Capital, today's vote represents the many steps that have been taken towards publically recognizing same sex couples as equal members of our community."
