by Connie Ress, VP of SDNYC

Since 1986, when gay activists Lew Todd, Steve Ashkinazy, and Saul Fishman founded Stonewall -- the City’s first and largest LGBT political club affecting all five boroughs -- our community has seen great progress in New York.

For our 20th Anniversary Year, we are excited to introduce some new changes that are sure to keep Stonewall Democrats where it belongs: at the forefront of political change. While our mission will stay the same, we will be highlighting a new logo, wesite and slogan.

Throughout our site, you will notice we are now referring to our club as SDNYC - who says we aren't hip? And, our new url is www.sdnyc.org. Check it out! Our site features this blog, issues, news, and links to your favorite organizations and weblogs. Our logo features Lady Liberty within the triangle, which embodies our mission in the greatest city in the world. Finally, our slogan: "TWENTY YEARS; FIVE BOROUGHS; ONE VOICE", encapsulates where we’ve been and where we are going.

We will continue our latest projects: a concerted effort to reach out to young Dems, networking events, and advocating for legislation -- the Gottfried and Duane “Right to Marry” bill, universal healthcare, DASA, GENDA and others. Our new organization, Remember Stonewall, is working on its first project: an historical marker on the old firehouse at 99 Wooster, where the old Gay Activist Alliance and Lesbian Feminist Liberation held meetings. The goal of Remember Stonewall is aimed at generations coming up and out to understand the rich LGBT history in NYC.

We hope you enjoy what you see!

not too happy

So your are an exclusive group just like fundamentalist christians. I don't mean to be disrespectful, and let's just cut to the chase, How do I get to speak to a group administrator to consider my membership of SDNYC? I am a poor man and the 50.00 I donated to B O isn't all that much, but I had to make sacrifices to be able to do that. I am frustrated that I can't make a difference in my life and others. I am 60 years old and I care. I guess I was just a little taken aback by the friendly site and then the denial in such blatant unfriendly terms. What I am really trying to do is find out more about the other people that are running so that I can make a careful decision for voting day. So if nothing else, please email me the list of people you are endorsing and the details of why. Meanwhile, I will continue to look for a political organization that wants my participation.
